Job Title and Location: Technical Designer / 560 Jefferson Avenue, Secaucus, NJ 07094
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: The position will report to the Project Managers and Principals of the company
Job Purpose: You are responsible for working with Project Managers on projects in coordination with SBI team members.
Essential Functions:
Main Tasks
- Drafting: from the general “site plan” to details; Create drawings for client/customer review and also shop drawings to communicate detail internally to necessary SBI teams.
- Understand project strategy, planning and execution: how the project team is assembled, how the building process is managed, how the project comes together onsite and offsite, logistical aspects.
- Learn the capabilities of the Secaucus, NJ shop and how to incorporate in house talent versus outside vendors to complete job scopes.
- Work toward understanding and utilizing the SBI bidding program.
- Under direction from Project Managers, help with production of estimates based on creative from client, through collaborative and team-input based processes. This can involve discussions on pricing, labor, materials, fabrication techniques and so forth.
Secondary Tasks
- Provide appropriate documentation, reports, receipts, Crew Call Sheets to Administrators in a timely fashion/meeting internal company deadlines (i.e. Credit Card statements and Reimbursements complete with Job#s, etc)
- Organize and create job binders, outlining the scope of each project.
- Organize and create Google Docs, outlining project details.
- Organize and create Pull Sheets; distribute to the appropriate departments.
Other Duties:
- Responsible for meeting weekly deadline to submit online Timesheets with Job# details, as well as submitting Crew Call Sheets in a timely fashion.

- Must possess excellent Computer Skills: proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google & Adobe suite
- Proficiency in one or more CAD programs: SketchUp, Rhino, Vectorworks
- Ongoing knowledge of basic event components i.e. lighting, rigging, sound, permitting, etc.
- Ability to communicate clearly and politely: telephone, writing/email/text, in-person
- Developing goals for business growth and ensuring they are met
- Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive and handle uncertainty
Work takes place:
- sitting at desk with telephone and computer use; regularly required to use hands to handle, reach with hands/arms and talk and hear.
- in a shop setting (Shop Management, Carpentry)
- attending conferences, meetings, industry events; Travel may be required.
- This can be a physically demanding job and SBI expects that you will be prepared to spend a regular work day often on your feet. Bending and lifting required.
Work Environment:
- Work environment varies: Office Setting, Shop and Warehouse areas, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours:
- Full Time, 40+ hours per week typically expected
- Typical Work Hours 7am-3pm Monday through Friday, sometimes weekend/overnight hours; hours will vary based on project/company needs
Hourly Range: $27.50 - $37.50 based on experience and qualifications
